Barrington Giving Days-Back to School Event

Barrington Giving Day, a 501c3 Non-Profit organization, has been serving the Barrington community for over 80 years. Created originally under the Barrington Salvation Army, our mission has always been to serve families in need in our community. As the needs of our community continued, Church Women United was formed and a community food pantry was established. Church Women United combined their efforts with the Salvation Army and distributed boxes of food. This event was later expanded to include warm clothing and toys. Over the years the event evolved and in 2005 Barrington Giving Day was formed to continue the mission. It is the goal of Barrington Giving Day to improve the lives of those in our community that for whatever reason have experienced hard-times.
.
Our Back-to-School Event is held in August at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where families receive gym shoes, clothing, backpacks, school supplies and other much needed items for their children in order to have a successful start to their school year.

Volunteer

Children head back to District 220 schools on August 24. Village in Action is once again supporting  the Barrington Giving Days Back-to-school event, to be held August 13-14, 2021 at St. Mathew Lutheran Church.

This is a great opportunity for Village Church of Barrington members to “Serve humbly in the power of the Spirit (1 Peter 4:10)” in one of the following ways:
  • Purchase requested clothing items for older girls online with delivery by July 12.  See separate directions HERE.
  • Volunteer to serve at the event.  HERE.
  • Volunteer to help staff a prayer table to gather prayer requests from participants. To serve 1 hour shifts at the prayer table go HERE.
  • Submit prayer requests for your own children and teachers to Marcia Reynolds.
  • Commit to praying over prayer requests through September. To serve email Marcia Reynolds.

Volunteers who are bi-lingual are especially needed.
It is hoped that every VCB family will prayerfully consider participating in one of the 2 back-to-school events that Village in Action will support this year.
