By The Hand Club For Kids

We are a Christ-centered, after-school program that takes kids by the hand, and walks with them through college, helping them have abundant life—mind, body, and soul. This year we are serving 1,600 kids across our five sites in four of Chicago’s most under-resourced neighborhoods: Altgeld-Murray, Austin, Cabrini-Green, and Englewood.

From the time they enroll in our program until they’re walking independently as well-adjusted, responsible adults, our mission is to literally and figuratively take our kids by the hand and walk alongside them. We tutor them to academic excellence. We mentor them to make wise, life-defining decisions. And we care for them as our own, meeting their basic nutritional and medical needs.

By The Hand began in 2001 with 16 children from Cabrini-Green. Since then, we have witnessed transformation within the lives of our kids—and as an organization. Thanks to the many people who help make The Solution possible, we now serve more than 1,600 kids from Cabrini-Green, Altgeld-Murray, Austin and Englewood, with property in North Austin to begin serving there.

Mission:

By The Hand is a Christ-centered, after-school program that takes kids by the hand and walks with them from kindergarten through college, loving and nurturing them—mind, body and soul.
